George Town World Heritage Site does not only belongs to Penang, Malaysia but all humanity. Hence, it is our responsibility to ensure that the tangible and intangible heritage must be well preserved, protected and promoted through educational programme.

This heritage walk is aimed to give a hands-on experience to understand the multi-culturalism of George Town through the different cultural and migration groups that shaped George Town as what it is today.

Participants will be engaged in a guided walk as well as self-discovery activities to cultivate awareness of the city’s unique urban landscape and historical multicultural settlement.

The walk basically re-tunes their minds to look beyond the “pretty’ or ‘nostalgic’ facade of built heritage and to look deeper into the historical as well as living aspects of heritage buildings and artifacts.

OBJECTIVES:

To encourage young people to participate and get involved in the efforts of heritage conservation.

To promote awareness among young people regarding the inscription of George Town World Heritage Site on 7 July 2008

To create a new synergy among State Government, Local Council, GTWHI, educators, heritage experts, and other stakeholders in the promotion of George Town World Heritage Education
